Supply chain case study competition for students from Europe

Step into the shoes of a supply chain consultant and win cash prizes totaling more than €10,000.

In the 4flow challenge Europe case study competition, you and your team will develop solutions for a supply chain sustainability transformation. You’ll be coached by experienced 4flow consultants and get insights into the daily life at a supply chain consulting firm.

Case study

What are the current challenges in sustainable supply chain management? How can a company transform its supply chain sustainably with both small and large changes, while ensuring the transformation makes financial sense? How can future trends and technologies be implemented so businesses become leaders in sustainable logistics?

In the 4flow challenge case study competition, you and your team will develop a sustainable transformation together. In the process, you will design future-ready sustainable supply chains and adapt to current challenges.

Timeline

The competition will take place from April 8 to June 7, 2024.

Kick-off
April 8, 2024

Date: April 8, 2024

At the video conference kick-off, you and your team will receive all the details about the case and the timeline. Invitations to the kick-off will be sent to teams that qualify for the competition.

Designing a sustainable supply chain
April 8-21

End date: April 21, 2024

You and your team will have two weeks to prepare a concept in the form of a presentation in English, which can be drafted with the assistance of your university professor, if applicable. You will also be coached by a consultant from 4flow. Submit your solution by midnight on April 21, 2024. A panel of expert judges will select the top solutions to compete in the next round.

Semi-finals
April 22 - May 5

End date: May 5, 2024

If you make it to the semi-finals, you and your team will receive the final part of the case study on April 22, 2024. You’ll then have another two weeks to prepare your next solution. Submit your solution by midnight on May 5, 2024. Based on your results, the expert judges will invite the best teams to the finals.

Finals in Hamburg, Germany
June 6-7, 2024

Date: June 6-7, 2024

The finals will take place at 4flow’s newly designed office in Hamburg, Germany – and 4flow will cover your expenses for travel and lodging. During the finals, your team will present its solutions to the judges and the other teams. The judges will evaluate the technical quality of your solution along with your presentation and communication skills.

Finalists will also be invited to attend an evening event to network with consultants from 4flow and other students.

At the conclusion of the two-day finals in Hamburg, the judges will announce the winning teams of the 4flow challenge 2024.

Rules and prizes

Rules for participation

  • Master’s students, preferably with a concentration in supply chain and logistics, are welcome to participate.
  • To participate, a team must consist of 3-4 students at universities in Europe.
  • Applications from diverse teams will be prioritized.
  • You and your team may be supported by your professor. If you plan to have a professor’s support, please include this information in your registration. Each professor may support no more than one team.

Prizes

Cash prizes await you and your professor’s department:

  • 1st place: The team receives €4,000. In case of professor support, the department will receive an additional €2,000.
  • 2nd place: The team receives €2,000. In case of professor support, the department will receive an additional €1,000.
  • 3rd place: The team receives €1,000. In case of professor support, the department will receive an additional €500.

FAQ

One or more of the members of our team do not have a concentration in supply chain and logistics. Can we participate anyway?

Sure, a strong interest and basic knowledge of supply chain and logistics is all you need.

One or more of the members of our team are currently finishing their degrees or will finish them during the 4flow challenge. Can we participate anyway?

Each member of your team must be actively enrolled at your university when the 4flow challenge begins on April 8, 2024. If a team member graduates during the competition, the team and the graduating member can continue participating.

Is participation open to students from outside of Germany?

Yes, participation is open to students from Europe.

Is a professor’s support a requirement to participate?

No, the support of a professor is optional. The cash prize for professors’ departments will only be awarded in the case of active support from your professor.

Can a professor support more than one team?

Each professor may support no more than one team.

Why does everything need to be submitted in English?

A day in the life of a consultant includes working with clients from around the world; therefore, English is essential.
